Making the 2026 Dropped Waist Plus-Size Friendly (Using What You Already Own)

To be completely honest with you, I didn't even realize that wearing a belt or tie below the waist was an old trend coming back for 2026 lol!. I'm just a plus size woman looking for a unique fashion statement! I love finding out ways to turn my old clothes into a master piece. I surely don't have a high fashion runway budget, so instead of buying new clothes, I decided to see what I could create using what I already had in my closet.

My breakdown On The Red and Black Combo

1. The Top: I started with a vibrant red top I purchased last year that came as a two piece. The top has a cute keyhole cut out at the waist and long, built in tie straps that I think is so cool! It's a short top that showed my tummy, but the straps are so long I could wrap around my exposed tummy.

2. The Pants: Instead of squeezing into tight and uncomfortable low rise pants, I paired the top with my relaxed black cargo pants with cool pockets. The pants are comfortable, and very functional, and look great on me.

3. The Low Tie: Instead of me wrapping the straps high around my ribs, I wrapped them low across my hips and knotted them right over the cargo pants to get that modern dropped waist look!.

My Shoe Tip

Let’s talk about my footwear and why I chose them. The cargo pants are naturally made to be relaxed and slouchy, so I wanted a shoe that added some glam glam. I went with pointed toe heels. Not only do they dress up the cargos, but that pointed toe is a secret gem that  stretches your silhouette so the low tie doesn't make you look shorter. I'm 5 foot 7, so adding my pointy toe kitten heels made me look a couple of inches taller.

The take away from this is? You don’t need to change your body or empty your pockets just to try a new trend. Girl go look in your closet, find a top with straps or even a favorite scarf and tie it low on your hips, and make the statement your own honey! and to end this post,

What do you think of this look?  Ya'll let me know if you would rock a low hip tie!

  2. I love this, Trina! I didn't know about that as a trend, either. I'm just trying to accentuate my waist since I now have one. I love the imagination in this look...I would never have thought to tie the top lower! I think the kitten heels (wish I could still wear them) are just perfect...the yin to yang thing. Black and red is such a fab combination, too! Thanks for joining in on Fashion Files!
