Trying to Find My Motivation Again When Life Gets Heavy

Finding your way back to motivation

I’ve been thinking a lot about motivation lately, how it comes and goes, and how some days I feel like myself, and other days I’m just trying to make it through. Life has been stressful for me in ways I didn’t expect. Between working, managing my Type 2 diabetes, and keeping up with my meds, some days I feel completely drained. And when the depression hits, people can see it all over my face. I try to hide it, but it’s one of those emotions that just shows up whether I want it to or not.

Being separated for eight years has brought its own kind of loneliness. I’m independent, and I love taking care of myself now that my kids are grown and living their own lives. There’s a peace in that. But I’d be lying if I said the quiet doesn’t get to me sometimes. I do want companionship, someone to sit with, talk to, laugh with. And then there are days where I don’t care if I have a man or not. It’s like my mind flips back and forth depending on how I’m feeling.

Menopause doesn’t make any of this easier. The mood swings, the tiredness, the emotional shifts it all plays into how motivated I feel. Some days I wake up ready to take on the world. I’m focused, I’m positive, and I feel like I can do anything. And then there are days where I lose it completely. Negative thoughts creep in, telling me I can’t do it, telling me I’m failing, telling me I’m stuck. It’s hard to fight those thoughts when they get loud.

But here’s the thing: every now and then, good news comes around. A small win, a good moment, a reminder that I’m still moving forward. And just like that, I feel my motivation coming back. It’s not perfect, and it’s not consistent, but it’s real.

I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. Life gets heavy. Emotions get messy. Motivation slips. And then somehow, we find our way back to ourselves again. Have you ever felt like this?, just know you’re not alone. I’m right there with you, figuring it out one day at a time.
